Sapote

This fellow was doing a brisk business with a truckload of fresh picked fruit.

We asked him what it was and he replied "sapote."

We asked if we could buy just one and he obliged (25¢) and cut it with his machete so we could eat it.
In Mexico they have a similar fruit called the zapote.

But it's different.

The Mexican fruit has one big black seed. The Ecuadorian sapote has four smaller seeds. The fruit was sweetest right around the seed.

Kind of messy to eat, but good.
