Seafood and Tripe Plate Lunch

I had worked up quite an appetite tromping all around the Latacunga cemetery so I headed back to the same place Daniel and I had the delicious ceviche yesterday to try something else on their menu.

I was hoping to try "encebollados" which they informed us they did not have yesterday. I have seen this on a lot of menus and don't know what it is. Does it have something to do with onions (cebollos)? As soon as I sat down they let me know there did not have it today either. So it will remain a mystery.

There was a picture of a plate on the menu that looked good so I asked about it. It turned out to be a dish called "bandera," a combination of three kinds of ceviche (fish, shrimp and "concha," a kind of shellfish I believe) and "guatita" which is tripe and potatoes in a mild peanut sauce. The whole thing is served with rice and half an avocado, and a side of fried plantains and popcorn. I doused it all with their good homemade aji (pepper) sauce. Yum!
