Our Great Hostel

I hope there are readers of this blog who are thinking now about traveling to South America and especially to Colombia.

Ecuador is a wonderful country too, but it already has a lot of tourists. It's remarkable how few tourists we have encountered in Columbia. Most that we have encountered have been from England or Canada. Very few from the U.S.
Since Villa de Leyva is a major destination for anyone traveling to Bogota (which is most everyone), I am happy to recommend our hostel here called El Solar.

It is on the edge or town so it has a nice big yard that looks out on the surrounding hills. There is a patio and a very nice proprietress names Marta who insists on giving everyone a hug at least once a day. She will also make you coffee or tea. You just have to ask.
The price is right too.

We are paying about $22 a night for a room with two twins and a shared bath.

That's a good deal in this town which caters to more upscale tourism from Bogota.

You can easily book a room here on Hostelworld.com.

It's not in our guidebook, but it should be.

It's really one of the more enjoyable places we have stayed.
