What is most striking when you go to Hacienda Napoles is the lack of tourists. We were there on a Sunday, which should be a popular day to visit. As you can see from the pictures in Part 1 the parking lot was empty when we got there. I imagine we encountered about 50 people our whole time there. It doesn't look like it is making it.
They are still building new attractions though, like this giant octopus water slide.
There is a "5-Star" hotel that we thought about spending one night in, just because we're so far away from a major city. But it costs 250,000 pesos a night (about $142) which was more than we wanted to spend. I would bet is is mostly empty.
We walked past the sad African animals and the dinosaur replicas and the water parks and headed for the main attraction which they call the "Casa Museo."
On the way we passed the bullring, and the exhibit of old rusted cars once owned by Escobar, including this first car, a little Renault.
At one time the entrance to Hacienda Napoles included the first little plane that Escobar used to fly cocaine to the U.S.
But for some reason it is now gone. This is an old picture of it I found on the Web.
I was disappointed not to see it.
