A Day at the Art Museum (Part 3)




Botero is not one to shy away from current events and not so current events.

He did a whole series of paintings a few years ago about Abu Ghraib.

And before that he did some paintings about the death of the infamous Medellin Cartel drug lord Pablo Escobar.


I'm sure these paintings hit a nerve with a lot of residents of Medellin who would rather just forget about Escobar.


Here, by the way, is a real contemporary photo of the death of Escobar in 1993.

  1. Looks like Botero actually slimmed him down a bit!!!!!
    You may recall the HRC at UT-Austin has several Botero's in their Michener Collection...(which I think has moved to UT's new art museum, the Blanton...)

    Can't wait for you to come back and share more photos, etc over some healthy food!!!!
