A Day at the Art Museum (Part 2)

It seems like about half of what we saw in the Museum of Antioquia was Botero, which is probably as it should be. He is a native son of Medellin and very prominent international artist. I have seen his stuff for years in a lot of different museums in the U.S.

There is a very large permanent retrospective collection of his work here. But the new exhibit called "Via Crucis, La Pasion de Cristo" was very interesting.

It included 24 paintings and 34 drawings all about the crucifixion of Jesus.

Of course it's not the skinny Jesus we are used to seeing but a Boteroesque fat guy.

Besides the fat middle-aged looking Jesus, the details are interesting, like the big city rising up behind the cross and contemporary people out for a stroll in the park in the foreground.

All these works were dated in 2010 and 2011 which raises the question in my mind of how Botero can be so prolific? He must have a workshop with a lot of assistants.
