On Tuesday, on our way home, Daniel and I have a three hour layover in Miami where we definitely plan to get some Cuban food at the airport.
But we heard there was a good Cuban restaurant just a ten minute walk from our hostel in La Candelaria, so we couldn't resist trying it out. Daniel has never had a real Cuban meal, just a Cuban sandwich.
When we walked into Moros y Cristianos we realized a birthday party was in progress. Nearly everyone who was there was there for the party and a live band was playing Cuban music. We thought they might make us leave, but we were invited to sit down at a room adjoining the party. We could still hear the band and see the fun, including dancing.
To make things easy on the small staff who were attending to the party, we just got one of their standard Cuban combo plates. It came with pork "ropa vieja" and rice and beans (same name as the name of the restaurant), and some fried plantains. It was served with a salad, and yucca in a kind of garlic sauce. We got a mojito to go with it and we also got a glass of wine with the meal.
I also think we got a piece of the birthday boy's tres leches cake. It was all delicious.
