In Ecuador, and now in Colombia, there is ample evidence that S. Americans love the Simpsons.
On the occasions when we have had a TV in our room and we were channel-flipping it is rare to not find a dubbed versions of The Simpsons on.
It seems odd because so much of the humor in The Simpsons relates to American culture.
Do the South Americans really get it? I wonder.
In a store in Salento we saw a entire wall display of Simpson's t-shirts.
Oh, and you can also get Homer's brand of beer in Salento. I checked the label and it is made in Columbia.
The Simpsons has done really well in Spanish-speaking countries - just check out all the Simpsons in Spanish on YouTube. According to the Wikipedia article on "Non-English versions of The Simpsons" (no kidding), Spanish-language versions of the show tweak the script a little but leave the animation and editing alone. There are different dubs for Spain and Latin America. Japanese animation is also incredibly popular in Latin America - The Simpsons might be culturally dense, but it ain't got nothin' on anime.
