A coffee farm grows a lot more than just coffee.
The plants have to be shaded, so plantain trees are also planted primarily for that purpose.
They produce a stem of plantains once a year that can be harvested and sold.
We also saw yucca plants, pineapples, and even an old avocado tree.
Luis says everything is produced organically without fertilizers or pesticides.
Once the beans are removed from the coffee fruits the husks are composted and make a good fertilizer.
