Daniel Summits Ruca Pinchincha ... Barefoot

From Cruz Loma at the top the the TeleferiQo there is a well-traveled trail to the top of Ruca Pinchincha which tops out at 15,180 ft. If Ruca Pinchincha were in the U.S. it would be the tallest mountain in the lower 48 and the 8th tallest mountain in the country.

Daniel didn't really plan to hike to the top of Ruca Pinchincha (right above his head in this picture). He didn't even wear his boots. He had on his suede desert boots.
But the trail from Cruz Loma didn't look too difficult, so he left me his book to read and gave it a try. He even left me his jacket -- not a good idea in hindsight as it got cold at 15,000 feet. When he got near the top the trail got muddy and he didn't want to get his desert books dirty, so he took them off and did the final part of the trail in his bare feet!

He did the hike in about three hours. Way to go Daniel! Now he won't have to summit Hood, Rainier, Shasta, etc., as he already has them beat.
