Bus to Popayan

Today we took the bus six hours north of Pasto to the town of Popoyan.

We got our ticket in the station for about $10 each. Buses are a good deal in Colombia too. We had an hour to get a bite to eat before our bus departed at 10 a.m.

Our bus driver, wearing a uniform with epaulets, greeted us in English and told us how we would get to watch two movies on the way. As the only tourists on the bus he wanted us to pick them out. Daniel and I just wanted to read and look out the window. We deferred to another young woman on the bus who picked out an awful action film with an overloud soundtrack. For the second movie the driver selected a really stupid Adam Sandler movie that was dubbed into Spanish, but he made a big show of turning on the English subtitles for us.

At least the scenery was spectacular.

Really rugged mountains without must evidence of human habitation. This is much wilder country than we encountered in Ecuador.

And we had a pretty good lunch break too. We got to Popayan about 4:30.

We look forward to exploring the town tomorrow.
