Beautiful Popayan

Popayan, Colombia, is a lovely city.

It is known in Colombia as the "White City" because nearly all the buildings in the historic centro are painted white.
It is largely free of the graffiti that we've seen so much of elsewhere.

Our hostel (above) is a bit of a spurge (about $22 a night), but we love the location right on the main plaza.

Popayan suffered a terrible earthquake in 1883 that toppled many buildings, but you would never know it walking around today. Most of the damage was repaired.
