As I am packing to leave for my trip I face a big decision. What hat to wear? Here are the candidates. Click on the picture to get a closer look.
I am rather partial to the Tip Top Cafe hat (that's a great downhome eating place in San Antonio near my brother's house), but it's really pretty faded and grungy. I have heard you can wash hats in the dishwasher, but I've never tried it. I'm afraid I would destroy a favorite hat.
The Ben's Chili Bowl hat and the Snow's BBQ hat might be good choices, but I don't know if I want someone to think I am from Texas, or from DC for that matter.
The Dickeyville Grotto hat is a favorite, but it's not the most comfortable of my hats. BTW, Dickeyville is a real place in southern Wisconsin, near where my Mom is from, and it has a weird folk art Catholic grotto. It's hard to explain. Google it.
So it looks like by process of elimination, I will take the Wyoming Libraries hat. I think that will be good. It's a little grungy, but not too bad. I may have to explain that I am not from Wyoming, but that I am a librarian. That's okay. That's my choice and I'm sticking to it. Of course I will need to look for a good Panama hat in Ecuador (yes, that's where they are made, not in Panama). But that will be another post.
