A Typical Scene in La Candelaria

Here's a typical scene in La Candelaria.

In the foreground is a beautiful church and the surrounding colonial neighborhood.

The narrow streets only accomodate one way traffic. But this is the center of the city and the traffic still moves fast, especially the buses and cabs whose drivers are always in a big hurry to get where they are going.

Pedestrians do not have the right of way, so you often have to run to get across even these narrow streets.

In the background are the skyscrapers of downtown Bogota, immediately to the north of La Candelaria. There is no transition between the old colonial neighborhood and modern Bogota.

If you have been to New Orleans and come to Bogota this will remind you of the relationship of the French Quarter to the downtown there, but here it's on a much larger scale.
