What Were They Thinking?
Plaza Bolivar in Tunja is the main square in the center of the city.
Viewed from this angle it's a typical lovely Latin American town square with the colonial era buildings intact.
But viewed from this angle you can see that one entire side of the square lost its original colonial buildings. In their place is a hideous modern building.
You can't see from this distance, but the modern building is obviously unloved. It is not well-maintained. It's an eyesore.
Maybe the city leaders now realize they made a big mistake, and if they let the modern building deteriorate they can tear it down before too long and rebuild something more appropriate to the old colonial plaza.
