Today we spent most of the day making our way north by bus from Popayan to the small town of Salento.
You have to cover a lot of miles to get around in Colombia. Unlike Ecuador, which is just a little bigger in size than Oregon, Colombia is about the size of Texas and California combined.
Today we passed through the third largest city, Cali. It is a large industrial town and did not look very appealing from the bus. The air was very polluted.
We also passed through the provincial capital of Armenia. Armenia is terribly prone the earthquakes, experiencing one every 20 years or so.
An earthquake in 1999 killed about 1,000 people and displaced half the population. I took this picture out the bus window of a cathedral that still shows damage from the quake.
We rode through rich farming country today, mostly sugar cane, but we also saw pineapples, oranges and other fruits.
