This block in Latacunga has three Chinese restaurants and some kind of other Chinese enterprise called "Asia Commercial."
There are lots of Chinese restaurants in Ecuador. They are called "chifas" and they apparently spread north from Lima, Peru which had a large Chinese immigration in the late 19th and early 20th century.
The food is an odd hybrid of Chinese and South American food, and the prices are really low. The most popular dish appears to be a kind of fried rice. I saw some being made in one of these places in a big wok. It seems to be the same phenomenon we have in the states of many low end Chinese restaurants offering a bastardized version of Chinese food.
I think I will pass on trying out the food at a chifa.
