Guambiano Market in Silvia (Part 1)

If you are in Popayan on a Tuesday a popular thing to do is to take a bus to the little town of Silvia for the weekly market.

Silvia is the market town for the indigenous Guambiano people.

The Guambianos have maintained their own language, dress and culture, something kind of unusual in Columbia, I gather.
We caught an early bus and about an hour later we were in bustling Silvia.

The Tuesday market in Silvia is not for tourists. There are no "artisan" goods on sale. We did see a lot of good fruits and vegetables, knitted goods and some clay pots for sale

We were mostly ignored by the locals. The exception was this playful fellow who insisted we take his picture with a sheep's head.
