The $3 Volcano Tour

Baños is located right at the foot of Volcan Tunguahura, one of the most active volcanoes in the world.

But you might never notice if you visit here in the rainy season when the volcano is perpetually shrouded in clouds.

So when we saw this poster at a tour company we thought we´d try to get a closer look.

And when we found out that the Volcano Tour was only $3?

Hey, we can´t lose.

So we boarded an open air bus blaring salsa music at 7 p.m. and headed up the slopes of the volcano.

It was a party atmosphere and we enjoyed talking to a young family from Latacunga on the way. The bus took us to a mirador with a view of Baños and the top of the volcano.

There was no glowing magma, like in the poster, but we did see a few wisps of smoke coming out of Tunguahura. Click on this picture to see for yourself.
