Yesterday was a day for visiting churches and museums of which there are many in Quito.
We had a fairly strenuous uphill walk to the tallest church in Ecuador, the Basilica Voto National. After my cardio workout getting there I was glad they had an elevator to take you up to the belfrey for a good view of the city. This church is noted for its unusual gargoyles based on Ecuacdorian fauna in including crocodiles, jaguars and even armadillos. On an absolutely clear day you could see snow-capped volcanoes from the top, but not today.
